Greetings God fans!
I hope your summer is off to a good start. It’s been hot, but, then, you probably don’t need me to tell you that! For many people summer means vacation, time with family, trips to the beach, cook outs. For a church it means different opportunities. I want to highlight some of those in this article.
Wednesday evenings in July will see a change in direction. I’m going to be out of town (vacation, camp, meetings) some of the weeks, so Dave Silvers is going to teach a series on different denominations in the American church. Sounds intriguing, and I hope you’ll come out and benefit from the study that Dave has done on this subject. This will start July 1, and our study is at 7:00 each Wednesday.
On the cover of this newsletter there is mention of the fellowship and encouragement -giving being planned for Sunday, July 19. This is a carry-in luncheon event, so please come, bring food to share, and enjoy the fellowship. More than that, please share the love God has given you with someone who needs the “lift” we can give through the letters we’re going to write. One reason for covering this here (as well as on the cover) is that we need names and addresses of those we can encourage! Please give contact info to me or one of the Elders. Thanks.
National Night Out is coming! Honestly, I had never heard of such a thing until about 6 months ago, but it sounds fun! August 4, 5:30-8:30 p.m. will be a community event at Northside Park (just across Tidewater Drive from McDonald’s at the corner). We need your help! We can assist with some of the logistics (signing volunteers in, etc.), we’ve signed up to do face-painting
for the kids, and we’ll have a booth where we can hand out information about the church and our ministries. Oh, and we are cooking the 5-800 hot dogs that will be given out to hungry people! Please let me know how you can help.
An ice cream social and evening of worship is being planned for August 30. Bev is putting together the worship program — let her know if you’d like to participate in singing a special, or whatever you’d like to present for the Lord and the congregation. Also, the Ladies’ Fellowship is planning the ice cream social portion of the evening. More info is coming about both portions of the program.
I’m excited about what God is doing here at Colonial Heights. I believe the foundation is being laid for growth. Please be involved in anything and everything that you can join so the joy of the Lord will be your strength.
Blessings! Matt
