Last month I wrote about how “spring is coming.”  I believe I was so bold as to suggest that you had heard it from me first.  How silly.  Some of us, the first time we see two robins talking we’re absolutely certain that they’re talking about baseball season.  Who knows what robins really talk about, you know?  Probably more about worms and nests than sports in any season.

The news we REALLY need, and need constant reminding about, is that Jesus is Coming!  That is, He is coming again!  He promised that a number of times before He ascended into heaven, and the early church seemed fairly obsessed with the possibility.

Jesus said (in Luke 12:40):You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.”   Also, in Revelation 22:12-13: “Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done.  I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.”

The angel said (Acts 1, as Jesus was going into heaven): They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them.  “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”

The Hebrew writer says (Hebrews 9:27-28):  “Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.”

So, do I think Jesus is coming again?  YES!  Do I think it will be SOON?  YES!  I just don’t know what God’s definition of “soon” is!  It seems like fewer and fewer people pay attention to teachings like this as we go forward.  It reminds me of Matthew 24:36-39: “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.  As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.”

We agree with John in Revelation 22:20: “He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.”  Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.
